Denon DCD-2560 Tray gear and track advance and reset not working.

So I have this CD player in for service and its getting on my last nerve. First, there is an issue with the tray gear. It's cracked and I did find a source in the UK that sells these, but they wont ship to the US stating limitations in customs/tariffs....which i really dont get. In any case, they cancelled my order. I reverted to trying to 3D print a replacement and it 'seems' to work, but I think there is some 'drag' that is happening. I replaced belts a while back so that is not an issue but what is happening with the tray now is that it will open and close, but not close all the way. I have to give it a 'push'. I cleaned and greased all tray skids and contact points i could see and it seems to just have trouble will collapsing the clamp. I removed the upper clamp assembly and the tray then closes perfectly. I suspected that the tension spring on the clamp was at fault and tried numerous replacements but either i get it too tight, or too loose....In any case, if anyone has a clue about this, let me know. In fact, if you know of a source for a good replacement gear here in the states....PLEASE let me know.

Now, onto the real big issue. If i put a CD in and give the tray a push when it closes, the CD spins up and it reads the TOC just fine. I press play and the player starts to play the CD perfectly. I will play through track 1, track 2, etc. BUT...if i was to advance from say the middle of playing track 1 to track 2 (or any other track for that matter)....nothing happens. If i eject the CD, and put it back in, it wont read the CD anymore. In fact, it spins the CD in the wrong direction. I this situation, i notice that the CD lens does NOT reset back to it's home (inner most parking position). I have to manual move it back to home. Then, when i put back in the CD....it reads the TOC fine and will start to play track one again. I have no clue how to troubleshoot this. Anyone have any idea what may be going on here? This is a nice CD player and I would really like to get this going for my customer, but the amount of time I have already put into this....well....let's just say I am about to throw in the towel and that is something I really hate to do, but I have to move onto other jobs.

Here is something you can try; and it is something I have done in the past to try to get CD players to play a CD all of the way through.

Download the PDF service manual. Find where the potentiometers are for adjusting laser power, laser focus, laser tracking etc. Find out which pot goes with what.

TAKE A PHOTO of the potentiometers on your CD player; make sure you take a good enough photo so that you can see exactly what position the pots are currently in. Mark the pots if you have to using an exacto knife or a fine ink pen.

It seems that your CD player might be having issues with TRACKING. Start with that pot, sometimes there might be two pots for adjusting the tracking. Turn the pots one way or the other just about a 16th of a turn. Run the CD player and see if anything has gotten better or worse.

Repeat this scenario over and over until you have either fixed the problem or not.

If all else fails, at least you can turn the pots back to their original positions.

LASER POWER is the one pot you have to be careful with. That is the one that can cut short the life of the laser if you, for the lack of a better term, "turn it up too high". I would leave it alone unless you really really know what you are doing.

GOOD LUCK!

Or an ultra fine point Sharpie pen.

Sounds like faults in the servo control circuits. I'm finding many older players now with failed electrolytics, both in the PSU and servo sections. Some early Technics units are well known for perished non-polar caps on the disc spindle motor board causing strange behavior (backwards rotation, bad speed regulation causing bad tracking, or no spin up at all). May be worth checking.
