Denon DL-103R on a Yamaha C2 preamp

I am using a Yamaha C2 preamp. I would like to buy a Denon DL-103R cartridge..The specs for the C2 , says it has a 50uv at 10 ohms for the MC input. The Denon DL-103R output is 0.25mv impedance 14 ohms. Will that cartridge work with the C2 at reasonable volume.. Has anybody tried one.:scratch2:

It should.I haven't tried it. My MC cart is a DL-160.But I haven't tried that either.Haven't used the C-2 in a long time.

I've been considering a DL-160 for my vintage Pioneer PL-51.
Any little complaints about your Denon, Avionic?

No.Actually sounds quite good.Got it mounted on a PF-800 and using a C-4 pre-amp.

The volume won't be a problem. But, to get most out of the DL-103R the input impedance should be higher than 100 Ohms. Some of the low impedance Ortofon cartridges may suit better to the C2.

Thanks for your help people.. Well, I think I will buy the DL-103R.. If you think the volume will be okay..Maybe I can get a transformer or change my amp at a later date...They got one at LpGear for $379.00.. Hopefully that is a good price..I will look around some more first..

More information please !!! Okay I went and brought a new DL-103R on eBay $80.00 less than lpGear..But after what Dr. Ear wrote about the impedance. I have been looking for a secondhand step-up transformer..I have been reading different information, where people have tried to help other people, but now I am even more confused....I know it does not take much to do that, but I do keep trying !!! I like the look and price of the DENON AU-320 MC/MM STEP UP TRANSFORMER.. Also it has two inputs...Will that work ???? So if the input impedance should be higher than 100 Ohms..I still can,t make sense of the specs... It says primary impedance 3 or 40 ohms..How do I get my over 100 ohms ??? Help !!!

The value stated on the step up transformer means the impedance of the source (= the cartridge). With a DL-103 go for the 40 Ohms setting. 3 Ohms would be fine for some (vintage) Ortofon MC's (MC 30 etc.)

Okay I was about to bid on a C-4 with just one hour to go, when I read your post...Now you are going to think I have been living in a cave or something..But until now, I had never seen a C-4 !!! I was up until the last few years, more into 78,s and antique radio,s..But after I brought an audio - technica Turntable to play the 78,s.. It all snowballed from there !!!! And I still had all my vinyl from way back, anyway... But the C-4 looks SO COOL !!!!! The other amps DO NOT !!!!! They were made more for the other stuff and not vinyl ..I like my C-2 but the C-4 looks better !!!! But I would need a transformer for both, by the look of it ... So, I must ask..Does the C-4 sound better than the C-2 ????? Also the thing is I need an amp with the three inputs one would not work for me.. Thats why I liked the DENON AU-320 MC/MM STEP UP TRANSFORMER. It had two...But if I thought the C-4 would sound better, I would get one and give my C-2 to my Son... So whats your opinion ????? Is the C-4 worth paying out the $$$$

IMHO the C-4 out shines the C-2. Here lately the C-4's have been going for some ridiculus prices though.

Well that one on eBay went for almost $500.00 over that with the shipping and then their is the tax and duty..I live in Canada so I also pay about 2c on the dollar.....That is why I asked if it was better ...

I told you they go for small fortunes right now.Shoot, that one hasn't even been refurb the avionic way yet--yet!:D

Well YAMAHA Lovers ..I received the Denon DL-103R in the mail today..Set it up quickly on my Technics 1700 Mark ll ...As the 301 is not ready yet... Well the DL-103R worked on the C2 even before I moved it over to the MC input.. It was just a bit muffled..Anyway it works real nice on the C2 MC input..A big improvement over my other cartridges...The only thing, I find it a bit bright and now it sounds the best from the C2 into my little Tube amp rather that my HTR -6130 YAMAHA Amp..But as Dr Ear has been saying.. I should be going into 100 ohms not 50 ohms as on the C2..So maybe that is the reason...
