Denon DL-300 vs DL103 vs DL-103R

I already have a DL-300 which I have been listening to for the last 4 days solidly, instead of eating, sleeping, and working etc, I love it.

I have an SL-1200 MKII and I'm running it through a Project Phono Box MKII.

I'm wondering what kind of difference I would get from a DL-103 or the DL-103r?

I just see the DL-103 is available at a quite reasonable price through eBay, and I am curious about the difference in sound between the DL-300, the DL-103, and the DL-103r?

Any thoughts?

My gut feeling is that it would be a step backwards...

If you want to move forwards (improve performance) I would look at the DL304 or DL-S1.

(I get a feeling the DL301 is the replacement for the older DL300... so roughly the same level)

David is right on.

The stylus on the DL-300 is " special elliptical " the DL-103 (x) is "16.5 micron special round ".

What ever that means.

The Denon DL-301 MKI with a similar stylus is a lot more detail on the medium light S arm of my turn tables.:music:

Thanks for your responses, I had a suspicion the the 103 would be step backwards.

But it's a legend, and I was just curious.

Hell, I'm still curious, I may still end up buying it solely out of curiosity.

I have both the Denon 301MKII and the 304 with a VPI Scout and JMW9 arm. The 301 MKII is a fine cartridge but the 304 is definitely a step above with better bass , mids, highs, and more inner detail. They both work very well with the Scout's arm.
