Denon DP 1200 Loose tonearm?

I have a well functioning Denon deck that I was putting a new Ortofon cartridge on today and noticed that where the tone arm goes through the vertical pivot point, there is some play if you twist it. Is this normal? I would think not as it could effect how the needle rides in the groove...I would appreciate any input.

I have been a member for several years and learned so much from this forum...thanks for all the help....

My isn't loose, check under the tone arm base and tighten as required.

Thanks Balifly-. It appears to be loose where the arm goes thru the round part- the "hoop" if you will. Tightening the two silver screws on both sides that holds the arm, seems to do nothing.
In fact I cant get those screws to move at all - either direction. Hmm. OF course the manual says nothing about this. I don't think tightening from under the base of the tone arm will effect that
part. Anyone?

Check the tone arm height adjustment screws at the base, just in case they are loose. :idea:
 
Do not mess with those tiny screws on either side of the tonearm support, they are factory set and have a locking outer ring and special tools are needed to do this properly. The play you are experiencing might be due to the fact that this tonearm has a knife edge bearing? I have the same small bit of fore and aft movement in mine. Just a slight little tick can be felt and heard, I'm living with it.
