Denon DP-1800... what is it?

Picked up a Denon DP-1800 with an Audio Technica AT15Sa cartridge. 1979-81.

This is a manual DD TT with a solid 1 inch (approx) marble-topped plinth.

Covered in nicotine, great shape after being cleaned, works... $30.

Heavy sum'bitch.

Oh, Geez, $30. Where do people find these things?

At Goodwill. I have no idea why they were selling it so cheap (they sure knew the value of everything else in the store that was of interest).

Even came with a free 48 hr money-back warranty.

damn good find my friend. I love those denon's, too bad they smoked like a freight train, hopefully the guts don't need to be cleaned.

The 15Sa cartridge is as good a find as the table. It was/is the forerunner of the current AT150MLX and that is one fine cartridge. You can get fine Audio Techbica and JICO styli for your cartridge body. You have made a SCORE :)

Thanks for the info. I noticed that the cart was very well made, and that it had a Shibata stylus (after doing a little research). Under my stylus-scope, the stylus looks to be in good shape.

Very nice! I have a DP-1200 which looks very similar but no marble. They are nice tables for sure!

The DP-1200 is the same table, from what I understand, just with a normal plinth. This thing is growing on me, and may get moved into the main rig for some serious evaluation time.

BTW: I've got a H/K Citation Twelve amp, Clyde! ;)

Sure is pretty! Marble is cool, and still looks in good shape.

One corner has some veneer damage, but it can be fixed easily (still straight, just peeled back). The dustcover is perfect. It was dirty (even had a roach casing in the headshell... yuck), but it cleaned up well and doesn't stink. Not mint, but certainly VG+.

I don't know much about Denon DD-TTs, and I've never had an AT cart, but so far (in the HT system) it's sounding like a keeper.

I did an ebay search and found one that sold for a ridiculous price a few months ago.

Solid looking table. My DP-37F looks lighweight in comparison.:sigh:

What about the arm? Is that a Jelco? The bearing and anti-skating dial remind me of the old ADC ALT-1 and ALT-2 arms arms, only with an S-shaped tube.

Jorge,

Oddly enough, I saw a picture of an old Denon mono cartridge that looked JUST like the ADC-1 cartridge I have on my Miracord 10. Maybe ADC sourced their stuff from Denon (Nippon Columbia).

The tone arm is (I think) a Denon. Similar to the Denon DA-307, so maybe it's the DA-305 or 306?

Jorge,

I just looked at a picture of the arm on an ADC-4000 TT and at the ALT-1.

Both clearly the same manufacture as my Denon's arm, and probably by Jelco.

Well, my 48 hr Cash Back Guarantee just expired. I think I'm stuck with it.

;)

No, you can still ship it east. You have the address already.

I've never seen one of those marble-plinth models, but I'd be willing to guess that unless you normally run a pretty special table, you have a new starter.
