Denon DP-3000 + Grace G-704 project in the works

It seems building turntables is something I love to do in my middle life. This one started with a pile of salvaged Paperstone countertop I had hoarded the last few years. I've used it before for audio items and it makes a terrifically dense and inert platform. This time I did a stack of 1" Paperstone alternating with 1/8" aluminum. It reminds me a bit of what Harry Weisfeld did when he made a plinth. I think it was Lucite and aluminum layers. It was not as thick as yours. How much does yours weigh?

Paperstone is a surfacing material used a lot for countertops but I've used it in furniture making, hifi equipment etc. I think probably slightly less dense than slate but it's close. For reference the plinth as it sits is 17" x 17 3/4"x 4 3/8" and with the big hole cut out for the platter/motor assembly weighs 39lbs exactly.IMG_6657.jpeg

Small progress! I milled a baseplate fitting for the tonearm mount from some 1/4" aluminum plate and inset it into the top of the plinth.

a litte more work on this today

I'm futzing around with some magnetic levitation "pucks" I made in an effort to suspend the turntable. The plinth itself is 39lbs and the turntable is probably about 20, I haven't weighed that yet. Anyway, around 50-60 lbs to suspend. I bought some 150lb screw mount magnets and glued them to some short sections of closet rod I cut. A brass pin keeps it centered. I have them arrayed around the table in an effort to get a balanced force. It's working but will need some fine tuning to get the best out of it. Once I have the function dialed in a little better I'll do some finish work on them. I think I'll add at least a couple more these pucks but need to order more of the magnets.IMG_6684.jpeg

I was just inside my DP3000, the bearing quality is insane! tungsten thrust pad and a noiseless ball, giant oilite bushings... I'd make sure to re lubricate these parts.
Gorgeous plinth, I wonder how far this TT can be taken

thanks! They do seem to be excellent quality, especially for the money. I also have a DP-80, which inspired me to try the DP3000

Congratulations! A truly beautiful and important piece of work that has added superior value to the Denon DP 3000. Work certainly not within everyone's reach.

Hi @Vaughn

I need the Denon (DP-3000) mounting template, how can I get it without having to go to VE?

Perhaps you can upload it to AK ?
