Hi everyone I am going to help one of my nephews get into vinyl. I am going to buy him a Denon DP 300F Table he has a pair of ADS L810 and I will buy him a new Denon receiver but I have read that the cartridge that comes with the tablet is less than desirable.
My current phono cartridges that I have as Backup are a Grado Prestige Black and a Sumiko Oyster does anyone have a good recommendation for a cartridge that would be a good sounding with his system thanks Tim

ADS L810 are some very nice speakers that would probably benefit more from an equally good vintage turntable and receiver. Present Denon company is in no way related to the Denon company of prior years 1960s-1980s when analog was the standard in the golden age of audio.

Majick47 Yes I have talked to my nephew about vintage gear and vintage tables I currently have a AR Turntable 80s version. The reason I wanted this table is because it is automatic i forgot to mention that he wanted to borrow some of my records and I didn’t want my collection played on a cheap table as for the receiver he also likes to be able to stream music too. I currently have a Onkyo receiver with wireless so my vinyl sounds great and my wife can listen to her Brazilian radio from back home so total vintage is good in certain circumstances ps I wouldn’t use a vintage receiver or amp until it was fully restored caps, transistor, diodes and eBay prices have skyrocketed even with the less popular brands, Sonically The Loudspeakers are going to make a big difference in how the stereo is going to sound

The original cartridge should have been the Audio Technica AT-3600.

There is a long thread filled with admirers on this forum. :)

What would be the budget for the new cartridge?

Hi Balifly my main concern is not getting my vinyl ruined on a cheap cartridge and my nephew has only tried my AR Turntable under my supervision
So that is why I wanted the automatic table probably 100.00

If concerned re not getting your records damaged I would purchase a few used records to see how he handles them. This will be a learning curve for the nephew, even if the table is an auto good chance he wipes out the cartridge and scratches the records. I could be wrong and the nephew is very mature in his late twenties and very careful with delicate items or if he's in his teens all bets are off.

There are some very good and inexpensive cartridges suitable for the Denon turn table - medium weight tone arm. :music:

Here are some examples:

Ortofon OM10

Hi I should of mention he is 21

Hi everyone thanks for the help and info my current cartridge I am using is a nagaoka and I know they have one for around 75

Maybe consider upgrading the stylus on the Denon. I see LP Gear has an elliptical stylus upgrade for little money. The Denon is a decent table, and the one that I played with would work for anyone wanting to get into vinyl. JMHO of course.

Still don't think loaning your records to nephew is a good idea. Being 21 chances are his taste in music will be totally different than yours, no idea how old you are OP. Almost like loaning out your tooth brush, let him purchase records of his choice and noting the cost he might be a lot more careful with them than yours.

Hi Guys I am not lending everything out just some Reggae and I will help him buy some vinyl too20140221_113909.jpg

OP know your intentions are good, how about giving nephew gift certificate to local record store as a Christmas present and let him pick out the records. Also don't overlook record stylus cleaning equipment supplies along with inner and outer sleeves for new records.
