Denon DP-45F Channel drop issues

Hey there.

My DP-45F started doing this a few months ago so, I stopped using it.

The right channel will drop out completely. The strange thing is, if you LIGHTLY tap the top of the turntable, the channel will jump, in and out.

I have checked the obvious; all connections on the back of the cartridge, (Ortofon Red), are tight. I removed a HC EQ that I thought was the culprit.

Just tapping the top of the table makes the channel go in and out.

I have not installed a new stylus.

Any suggestions?

Again, new here so, if my jargon isn't up to snuff, I apologize.

Let's see, could be:
-cartridge
-cartridge wires
-headshell connections
-tonearm cables
-RCA plugs
- dirty phono preamp RCA plugs

Have you tried pinching the cartridge wires carefully? Cleaning the table and preamp RCA plugs?

Can you borrow another cartridge on a headshell, simply to see if it does the same thing? If another cartridge/headshell is OK, then it pinpoints your cartridge or headshell as the culprit.

Before you do any of the above, swap the left and right RCA cables at your preamp input and see if the problem follows that (i.e. left channel now goes out). If it does it is something within the confines turntable. If it doesn't it is farther down your chain. Quite possibly it is a loose connection inside the table right at the little pcb where the RCA cables join to the arm wires. Pull the headshell and listen for the hum from both speakers. Tap on the turntable without the headshell installed and see if the channel cuts in/out. Then my above is correct.
