the 307, 308 and 309 all use pivot bearings, the side screws are pointed into ball bearings, tightening can damage them.

denon used an elastomer cup between the bearing and the arm, problem is it melts over time. replacements bearings are available but

only in lots of 1000. I have cleaned melted rubber with IPA in an ultrasonic for a few hours. for reassembly used heatshrink

as a replacement for the rubber cup.

when that is done the denon arms are pretty good.

Exactly, that's what needs to be done. Unfortunately, I didn't find the right bearings but I managed to clean the old ones with liquids, and WD40 and even with ultrasound, achieving good smoothness. I replaced the elastic sleeve that served as a shock absorber. I found all this in a tutorial online.

Nice! My Japanese is a little rusty,m (;-)) but this seems to describe the two vertical bearings. The play in my arm is in the pivotal/horizontal bearing(s). Must these be accessed through the top, by taking out the two vertical bearings, as per the tutorial?

My latest update: it seems not possible to get to the bearing in the pillar without major surgery. By loosening the connector in the base of the pillar, there is some access to the inside of the pillar; i have injected (…) some light synthetic bearing oil on wat should be the bearing. The play is gone completely.
