Denon DR-M24HX - Worth it?

Hi out there.

I spotted a Denon DR-M24HX on CL and am wondering if it's worth th $25 asking price. He says it works great and is in good condition. My Nak BX1 went south some time ago (stops randomly during playback) and I want something to renew my listening pleasure and figure out which tapes need to be thrown/re-recorded. Plus I'd like to put a vintage two knob tape deck in my old pickup (1970 Chevrolet).

That Denon should be good for the price. However, have you had the belts on your Nak replaced? Idler wheel? Just curious since most decks need attention given to belts over time.
 
Haven't done any work on the Nak for a while. I figure now its cheaper just.to get a "new" deck and.work on the Nak later when I have more time. I did change the idler not too long ago but it didnt last long before it was having speed issues again
 
The idler only controls proper tape take up and ff and rewind. It does not affect playback speed. That would be the capstan belt or capstan motor. The Denon is a better deck, though, with 3 heads vs 2 in the Nak.
 
I'll add my +ve comments for the Denon.
I bought a 3-head DR-M20 when it came out in the mid '80's. It was a well rated deck in it's price class, that I only got rid of last year (I haven't used tapes for years so it was just taking up space...). The DR-M24HK should be well worth $25
 
Agree, the DR-M24HX is currently my reference deck at home - the mech is "rock-stable" and the electronics better than the following M700-800/800A. I would also ask for a lot more if selling it.
 
Well, after all the good remarks I was really looking forward to picking it up but he flaked on me. Oh well maybe next time. Thanks for all the good input though.
