Denon DRA 1025RA - weak left channel

I recently scored a Denon DRA 1025RA at the Goodwill. I am quite partial to Denon, and this must have been their TOTL or at least second in command in the early 90s. It's 125wpc receiver, and very nicely built.

The catch is that one channel doesn't work properly, ie it is very quiet with absolutely no base. There are probably no mids either and even the highs might be somewhat short of whats required. The right channel sounds fine. I've tested the unit with three different pairs of speakers as speaker pair A and B, and the problem is consistent on the left channel of the receiver. I've also blasted a good amount of Deoxit into all the pots I could get hold of (especially balance and volume, but found no improvement.

I would be grateful for any speculation what might be the issue, and how difficult it might be to fix. In the end I will probably give it to somebody so get it fixed rather than attempt a DIY, since I am a dead loss with a solder iron :dunno:

Many thanks

Frank

wow, I have a DRA 1035R, 130 wpc, very clear, no mid bass, has very low bass, preamp is lousy, even with the variable loadness control fiddled with it still sounds weak. My two marants units 2270 and 2275 step all over it.

Nice looking receiver, Frank! I need to go to your Goodwill Store! The problem is going to be either a bad speaker relay or a bad cap in the feedback circuit in the amp. Both are very common problems.

No help on fixing your reciever, but I can say nice score, you'll like it, though I do find the preamp in them a bit bass shy, and 'thin' sounding. I like them much better with a seperate preamp driving the amp. I've got the amplifier section of a DRA-825R pulling backup duty for my mc2100 while I wait on funds to get it recapped (she's started buzzing, time to lay off till it can be looked at, damn things only 38 years old on all original components, I dont know what its problem is...:scratch2:). These Denons arent Mac, but they put a pretty good whipping on the Onkyo I've owned.
