Denon DVD-2910 Laser

I've been looking for a nice universal disc player like a Denon DVD-2910, 3910, etc. I missed out on a cheap 5910 on Craigslist, but I should have called right then vs later! At any rate, I found a decent looking 2910 in the electronics section of the local Goodwill. It had a big T on the top, which indicates that it's been tested. Tested means 'generally works', from what I've been told. It wasn't cheap, as far as GW prices go ($49), but it seemed reasonable, considering there was no shipping cost involved.
I got it all hooked up, and it won't play CD's or SACD's but will play DVD's, which I really don't care about, other than DVD-A's. Based on what I've read, it needs a new laser assembly. At this point, I can replace the laser for around $30 or eventually return the unit. I'm inclined to just do the repair and not worry about returning it. It looks like a fairly simple operation, based on a couple videos I've watched. I'm curious as to if others have had positive experiences with replacing the laser on these and which replacement they used, as I've read reports that both HOP-1200S and HOP-1200R are correct for this model.

Just so this tread won't be worthless, here's a pic. ;) Build quality is actually pretty nice, and there is a fair amount of separation between the power supply, disc assembly, and audio and video boards.

Side rant:
I can return it eventually, I'm told, as they've suspended accepting returns temporarily due to Coronavirus. Oddly enough, they seem to have no issue accepting donations, and I'll address that with them along with the items that I've found or bought that don't work, such as a decent Carver receiver with a dead display, marked as tested. I'll also let them know whoever is doing their testing needs some training!
