Denon power amp/pre or Onkyo??

This weekend I have the opportunity to choose between a Denon POA 2400/PRA1200 amp/preamp, or an Onkyo M508/P308. Both systems are in excellent condition, with the Onkyo's having the boxes/manuals as well. Not having any exp with either models, are there any big differences between the 2? Build quality, sound quality? The Onkyo has the cool meters while the Denon does not. If the differences are minor, then I guess it comes down to looks and condition. Picture of the actual Denon attached. Onkyo pics from web, but are in perfect condition.

I would go with the onkyo's, but I think they would be a close match if you put em head to head.

If I could see inside pics have a better idea, I don't like dennon, but when they first started to do amps they where very good.

Even with pics, it would have no bearing on how they sound, unfortunately.

Both are good.

can't comment on the Denon gear, but the Onkyo pieces, individually and collectively are top notch, and very desirable

Well it has all the right stuff Dennon, but it still sort of has that home stereo look.

I think I would lean Onkyo, as I said one really needs to hear.

I would go with the Onkyo. How can you not love those big VU meters?

I'd go with the Onkyo stuff without a doubt. That P308/M508 combo was Onkyo's Grand Integra series.....way and above the Denon gear IMHO.

One of my amps is the Onkyo Integra M-504. Although it doesn't get much use, it looks good just sitting there waiting. I haven't ran across the 308 pre, so it's either my Yamaha C-60 or C-85. I do like the wood finish match to my QL-Y7 TT, so thinking of putting together in the same system.

Hopefully by this time tomorrow, the Onkyos will have a new home. I am giving up alot for them, but need the power to drive my Tandberg Studio Monitors. Plus the looks are killer.
