Deoxit D5 alternative?

G'day chaps.

Despite it looking very much like most folks on AK are from the States (sadly, I'm not, but from a small rock in the middle of the sea near mainland Europe called "England"), looking up and down the internet trying to find a cheap bottle of Deoxit D5 (it's really stupid money here) I stumbled across this- see below. Sadly we too used to have Radioshack (was called 'Tandy') until Carphone Warehouse destroyed it, and laughably just went out of business themselves recently too, so tough cookies to you too you b@$%!£^&s!

Anyway, to cut to the chase, it seems that Radioshack also sell Deoxit, but under their own name. And it's also a lot cheaper! So there you go.

Check the datasheet. Hmm... Where have I seen *that* logo before??

If anyone knows a good Blighty alternative to Deoxit, please do let me know. Servisol 10? Dunno. I could never get the stuff to work. WD40 was better, but always covered everything in 'banana-flavoured' gunge. :(

Well, the suggested uses on the can's label certainly dates the products era: "especially drum-type TV tuners " o_O
Man,I cannot even remember when I last thought about a drum tuner, let alone worked on one.

But yes, this is a very good product, and Caig made lots of stuff for RS over many years.

If you are in the UK give Servisol 10 a go, its about £5 A can rather than £25 They want for Deoxit and it's just as good

Yikes! It looks like it's about double the price on Amazon in the UK vs the US, so it's def. not cheap! One thing, though, is that a can lasts a really long time. I've had the same can for at least a decade and have used it on at least a dozen pieces of equipment in the past 6 years. If you can justify it based on the number of units it takes care of, it's a bit easier to bear. If you only need it for a single unit or two, that's a bit different. Still, it has made unusable pieces of equipment work as intended.

Thanks for all the tips. I never had a lot of joy with Servisol 10 though. I know people swear by it. I've found a company in Nottingham just up the road from here that have Deoxit going for £20 a can, but with this lockdown, all shops are shut right now- which is highly irritating. I guess that's why Amazon are taking the pi$$? Shops though opening on Monday, so here's hoping. Ironically too, today is a 'bank holiday'. The last 6 weeks have felt like one long bank holiday.

Unfortunately John, that second link goes nowhere. But the good thing is that Kontakt 60 appears to be cheap and available from many UK outlets. But yes, agree. It's the shipping costs (probably due to EU regs- because another excellent cleaner made by Phillips was also withdrawn due to regulations) from the States that makes it so expensive.

You can get these from Conrad (laaarge webshop) in Germany, search for "Kontakt Chemie".
Shipping is free above a certain order value. These chemicals have been used for ages in
high tech companies and proven to be realy good. Supposed to be used in the order from left
to right.

One tip regarding deoxit, as I also use it...

Get the D100, which is 100% deoxit and not 95% contact cleaner. I’m sure you can get contact cleaner for much less.

Apply the D100 (and you don’t need much) work it in and then wash out the switch with cleaner.

At least that way you (almost) get what you paid for with the high shipping and import duty.

@petehall347 I guess you're referring to the Caig website? Try searching for a distributor outside the USA. Whoever designed their website should be taken out and humiliated in front of their family! LOL! It's so archaic.

Also, you say you're in 'the middle bit' of the UK. Anywhere near Birmingham?
