Design Acoustic’s PS-5s

So I’ve been trying to do some research into Design Acoustics PS-5s and if they had an accompanying floor speaker/ woofer. My old man used to have a floor speaker that had the same wood and brown grill cloth look as the PS-5s, I’m just unsure of the model. He had gotten rid of it years ago because of some water damage and regretted it ever since. I’d love to find him a replacement to get his set up back together. If I can ever find a picture of it I’ll add it to the thread. Thanks for any help!

I don't believe Design Acoustics made a sub/satellite combo. However, your description reminded me of Visonik David speakers and the matching M&K Goliath subwoofer-

You may be referring to the rare and elusive D-A System 30 as the only trace I've ever seen of that 3 piece model was a factory sales brochure that was offered on FleaBay awhile back.

The last new model of speaker the original Design Acoustics made before the sale to Audio-Technica was the LDM 10 which were exactly the same as the satellites in the System 30, so they were a carry-over model with a different model number assigned. What would have made these sound very good were the use of the top shelf Peerless KO10DT dome tweeters in the satellites as all future Design Acoustics PS Model speakers used dome tweeters sourced by Audio Technica from Japan.

I have that system. It is a nice sub/sat setup and one that initiated the trend back in the 80's. The sub is probably going to be hard to find alone, but I would start on eBay.

The subwoofer is a dual voice-coil design with the crossover inside the enclosure. There are a few options on how to hook up the satellites. The sub has a foam surround and is VERY hard to replace because of the dual coils. I ended up replacing the sub after 2 attempts along with the caps in the crossover.

The sound is classic DA. Very smooth and refined. The sub is not a gut puncher, just there to add good lower octave support.
