Determining value for a Nakamichi Dragon

Hi AK!

I inherited an audio collection recently and among the pieces is a Nakamichi Dragon.

The unit's serial number is in the 10500 range. It is essentially immaculate save for a scratch on the back. I have all the original boxes/packaging, the manuals, the cleaning kit (not the tape, the swabs and solution). It has been meticulously cared for however it has been sitting for a several years following the passing of the original owner. I have verified that it works. It plays, records, rewinds and fast forwards. I've not listened to a tape deck in a looong time so I have no reference point.

I have checked eBay to try to get an idea of price range, but prices seem to be pretty wide, ranging from $1200-$2600.

Your constructive feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'm more interested in records right now and feel like it would be better in someone's collection who would appreciate and use it regularly. Thus, I'm starting the process to sell it.

Not sure what you want other then a buyer obviously you know what the Ebay value is which is what practically everyone uses BTW you might want to delete the part about selling it that is against the rules. Thanks for subscribing you can post a FS ad in Barter Town if you wish. For the most money put it on Ebay globally with no reserve if you want a no hassle sale put it on BT also no fees this way.

Ebay sold prices are the best estimate of value.

You have all the info you need.

You just need to pick a number you will accept and put it on eBay.
 
With original boxes/packaging, the manuals, and a clean unit, I would say a fair value is around $2000. Or at least $1500 should not be a problem
 
Best thing now is to post a Dragon For Sale Ad in bartertown and see what comes of it ...
you will need to post a price in your ad - but you should be getting close to knowledge of what you want for it by now.

What I try and do is if I have something to sell is offer it here first in BT at slightly less then what I feel it would sell for on Ebay typically 25% off then after a few weeks if it does not sell then list it on Ebay this way I am giving back to the community a bit and since I know from experience that I don't need to worry about returns or paying about 15% in fees from Ebay and PayPal it seems to work well for me and the community here not a single return request of any kind from any buyer here since 2005 even though I do offer a 100% money back guarantee on everything I sell here and I have sold hundreds of items over the years here.

Once thing to check, before you sell it, will be to let it play a tape all the way through; this will reveal any problems with the idler wheel not making sufficient contact with the takeup reel (if it stops partway through, it probably needs this attended to). If it fails the test, that will affect the end price, but you'll have a clean conscience.

+1 and also to record an CD or two on both sides of the tape. But then you can also offer it up for sale as-is.
