I have a TX-2 that I bought new as a youngster and has been with me for decades. It has been unused since the mid-2000's. I put a new cartridge on it and was was enjoying vinyl again. After maybe 20 hours of play it stopped working - the platter doesn't spin and the tone arm does not move. The platter is difficult to manually rotate and the tone arm is VERY difficult to slide left or right.
I have removed the cartridge and both the top and bottom platters, and removed the right-hand screws to allow me to lift up the top part of the turntable body.
The interior is pristine - very little dust at all! Everything is clean and nothing appears out of place or broken. The belts are both unbroken.
The platter motor starts turning immediately upon the unit getting power, even if it is "off". The other styus motor also runs and it's belt rotates a pulley but I have no idea how the coplex system of gears that moves the tonearm is supposed to work - there must be something that engages things on the pulley shaft that hidden from view. I have confirmed that the solonoid fires and operates it's mechanism fine by cycling Play and Stop.
Any thoughts?
