Dial cord string glue

Hi all,
I picked up a Yamaha CR 620 and removed the cover. I broke the dial cord string right where it attaches on the left side of the indicator. Can I just glue this back on? What glue is recommended? Thanks for your time.

very unlikely it will be happy with glue, and even less likely the glue would hold, especially if it goes over a pulley or around a shaft. Its not the most fun thing to re-string these things but if its still basically on there and you have the service manual its a whole lot easier. Trying to figure out how it goes without any clues can drive you mad.

Normally when you find dots of paint on the string, its to lock the dial pointer in place.

For places where glue is needed I use a small drop of plain wood glue or school glue. First, you need a new string! And yes, the Yamaha is one where it's super easy to catch the string when removing the cover.

Have you ever had to remove the tension spring? I am having a heck of a time figuring it out with damaging the little clip on the wheel.

On metal wheels yes, but they just go over a little hook so its very easy on those. If this has an eye that the spring coils through it won't let go easily. I'd probably try to just work around it if at all possible. Maybe figure out how tight the cord needs to be, pop it off one of the guide wheels so it has slack and then tie the final knot.

As another alternative to needing to remove the spring from the pulley, if you have a helper or an extra pair of hands, you can pre-stretch the spring. Then just tie the knot with the cord in its intended configuration and with no slack. Then release the pre-stretch, and the spring should still provide some tension.

I have reinforced a frayed string with Shoe Goo and it's held for years, but I don't think it would work if was fully broken; too much tension
