Dial Pointer Transplant SX-838 p/n AAF-030

Hi all. I am working on an SX-838 and the dial pointer has been broken and re-glued. No light passes into the pointer. The p/n AAF-031 is used on SX-838, SX-939, SX-1010 so I'm not expecting to find a reasonably priced donor unit. I am wondering if I can transplant just the plastic pointer from another x3x unit into the SX-838 metal holder?

Here is my question... does someone have an SX-434, 535, 636, 737 available? Can you look at the pictures below and measure just the plastic part of your dial pointer and let me know if they are similar, the same, would they fit and be usable? If so, I can broaden my search for a donor unit.

(edit: corrected p/n to AAF-031 in text)

Thank you for any help offered.

All the x3x dial pointers should be the same. Try replacing the bulb with a small LED and see if that helps.

Hi - i have replaced the lamp and light is at the base of the holder but because of the re-glue, light won't pass into the pointer. The SX-737 uses p/n AAF-020, SX-434 uses AAF-028 the SX-838 uses AAF-031. I'm hoping the difference between these is the metal holder which places the plastic part in the right geometry given the chassis dimensions.

Hi Jerry,
Were you able to replace the dial pointer? I am also trying to find a suitable replacement.

Hi, I have not tried this yet, but i suspect it will work. I've been casually watching for a 434 to 737 that i can harvest a pointer, clean up and resell without too much effort. One has not presented itself yet. (I need to look a little harder :) )

Let us know if you get this to work and I'll do the same.

A while ago I read a post from someone with the same issue. They used a plastic filament that is used in gun sights as a replacement and liked the results. It comes in small rods that would be ample in length.
