Dial String ??

Need to restring the tuner needle on a Curtis-Mathes 29C. Got my Sam's to help out with the route. But what should be used for string??

For $7 can get enough to do estimated 20 tuners from the big auction site. Is it a special type of "string"??, or can a good substitute be easily found around??

I have always used fish line with success. One spool lasts for many restringings.

To be a bit more specific, you need to look for braided Dacron fishing line in #20 to #30 line strength.

LOL, yeah, 6# monofilament probably isn't going to cut it.

I've picked up spools of braided dacron for a couple bucks a surplus outfits.

Radio Daze and www.tubesandmore.com both carry the proper dial string. The problem with eBay is that you can't really touch it to know exactly what you're getting. This is the reason I don't but some stuff off eBay - like clothes and shoes.

I've also used craft "sticky cord" in a pinch. It's thick string impregnated with beeswax.

Just don't use it in tubed tuners :stupid:
