DIATONE Boron vs non-Boron Speakers

:cool: Need advice a.s.a.p., the target product is hotly contested in my country at the moment...

Hi all, I have just bought a pair of Diatone DS-50CS for around {price deleted} (I'm not in the Americas), they sound very very well, even the bass is strong. I drive them with Sansui AU-70, Sansui 7070, and Sony TA-1130, all with good results.

Then there is another pair of Diatone DS-1000ZX for available for triple the price:

From the literature, these DS-1000ZX (made 1995) use pure boron in their high and mid drivers, the low are in "aramid honeycomb corn type", whereas the DS-50CS (made 1975) seems to use the more conventional materials.

I wish to know, in terms of sound quality, how much they differ? Would boron make better sound? Is the DS-1000ZX worth the extra (3 times the price of DS-50CS)?

Congratulations on your purchase!
If the 1000ZX are close to you I would suggest making a trip to give them a listen and decide for yourself.

They are 4 hours away, so I want to hear from people familiar with Diatone speakers first... :-)

Thanks. Can comment a bit on the sonic differences between these two? From the specs, DS-1000HR (and also the DS-1000ZX) can reach 40kHz, whereas the DS-50CS is 20kHz. For my age (55), the most I can hear is up to 16kHz, so I wonder will this really matter? Or the boron drivers contribute real perceived improvements in sound other than the extended highs? Also, a friend of mine cautioned me that the boron drivers are unobtainium, if they are dead, that's it. Since the price is 3 times more, I'm a bit hesitant.
