I've kind of been on the lookout for a preamp for my Model 140. I believe the matching unit is the 3200. Well a 1060 popped up locally and I noticed the physical dimensions were the same as my 140 so I figured why not.
To make a short story shorter, I ended up getting the 1060 and a model 105 tuner for 100 bucks. They look great and work fine for the most part. The 1060 cuts in and out when when you play with buttons. It also makes an interesting buzzing noise at startup. So I know it at least needs to be cleaned up and possibly re-capped. Which brings me to my questions...
Having never heard a 3200 or 1060, how to they stack up against eachother as preamps? Should I keep looking for a 3200? Is the 1060 worth restoring? I really like the look of this stack, especially with the Snell type K's that I'll be driving with it. Seems like a good combo. I keep hearing about synergy between certain vintage pieces. Any opinions would be appreciated.

nice

Yes, the 1060 is worth some effort.
You got a good deal.

I had a friend's 1060 on the bench. It was so dirty, it wouldn't even play. SO, yes, give it a good cleaning.

Its a very popular unit.

The 105, I am unfamiliar with but I would never throw it out of my pile.
Man, I love the Marantz look.

Thanks for all the comments. After digging a little deeper here on AK, Ive seen a couple restos of this unit and it learned that it apparently has a pretty good pre section. So its settled. I just removed and de-ox'ed the buttons per Leicalover's thread and all seems to be well. This combo really sounds good. I'll be taking her over to Sir.Byrd's for a recap next week. This looks like something I'll be keeping around and maybe giving to my kid oneday...
