Did you get in conflict with old people because of your passions for older stuff?

Telecolor 3007

I love old stuff
Do you get in colficts, including small arguments, making fun with people because your passions for old stuff.
Me: usually some older people do understand. My father, who had nice machines when most people couldn't afford them, dosen't.
People of my age: most think I have to go modern.
Younger people... you can guess. There are some vinyl enthusiast though, cars enthusiasts; for film cameras, no. Anyway, they are an exception and even some of them can be against me.

Maybe I'm surrounded by better people than I used to be but I find most folks respect other people's passions whatever they might be. And thinking about it, I don't think it's just me. I've got a kid in college and one in high school and their experience is that everyone has completely different niche interests. Everybody's too busy down their own special rabbit hole to give others schitt for theirs...

Same as above ^^^.

The only types likely to have a strong position are others who are also into audio. The 1-2 friends I have who fall into that category are also vintage equipment buffs.

Oh yeah all bets are off if you're down the SAME rabbit hole! Then it's all-out war over which frakkin' op-amp gives the 'warmest' DAC output.

I am old people now, and yes, I get into conflicts with myself.

Sometimes, it's a trade-off between being irritated tripping over it or having to repeatedly move it, and being irritated when I throw it away- and then NEED it. That's a frequent internal monologue for me.

Regards,
Gordon.

I do understand some of the concern. Some do it not to just make a point- but because they believe they're genuinely being helpful.

I had a couple friends, who at one time or another, fretted a bit because of my old daily-driver cars. They were like "why don't you get a newer one, the repairs on this are going to eat you up". Once I showed them my records over the last 20 plus years of owning these older cars- showing an astonishingly (to many people) low annual expense rate, they pretty much let it go at that.

Gordon.

I've never been in conflict with anyone over a choice of either equipment or music.
Whatever the preferences of others, I'm happy with my gear, some ofr which i've had for over fifty years, (speakers and turntable) the rest, not far behind and everything works just as it should.

These are a bit younger. It's a YouTube rip on 3rd gen iPod

The extraneous noises are from my little Lumix camera

And I've these in our summerhouse at the bottom of the garden

My music choices, don't include much from the last twenty years.

I've always said that I would listen to any good tune played or sung well, sadly, contemporary examples I find hard to find.

Most, young and old, love my tube amps and Reel to Reel's. It's my "vintage" flip phone that I get a lot of grief over from all ages. Paul.

Don't let anyone knock you off your pegs. Try to eliminate negative vibes whenever possible. It's a waste of time to try to rationalize it.

I figure that when you let certain people always make you feel bad inside — they win, and you lose.
