If all goes well I am about to pick up a 1290 that seems to in very nice shape. It should be a decent CDP and probably a pretty good transport to use with a DAC someday. I also have the chance to pick up a 2560. They look identical at first glance but it seems the 2560 is a bit deeper and heavier, though not be a huge margin. The real difference seems to be in the converters, the 2560 using two per channel vs one for the 1290. The laser in the 1290 is the NKS240A, not sure about the 2560.
From looking at the history of Denon CDPs, and these came just after I stopped selling them so I do not remember them personally, it seems the 2560 was just below the huge battleship 3560 and the 1290 was pretty much the replacement with some cost cutting, but might have been TOTL a I cannot find any replacement for the 3560.
Just wondering if anyone has ever compared them and is able to say if there is an actual sonic difference between the two or any reason to prefer one over the other. Thanks.
