A while ago I acquired a pair of B&W DM6 pregnant penguins and was told by the owner that one of the tweeters was broken. So I searched for TW20 tweeters, saw one for sale on eBay and bought it straight away. But then I put the speakers in storage while I focussed on others.
Now that I am finally going to take an interest in these speakers, I removed the non-working tweeter and realised it (and it's counterpart in the other speaker) is not a TW20, but a TW26SL.
I installed the TW20 and after listening to them both, I feel the TW20 is louder and more coherent. I immediately looked for another TW20 online and the other one I had my eye on is long gone and I can't see any more anywhere else at all! (I gather they are pretty rare...)
Questions:
Should the different tweeters produce a similar sound, or is it reasonable to assume they will sound different?
Does the value of the speaker depend in any real sense on it having the original TW20 tweeters?
Does anyone on AK have a TW20 tweeter lying around that I could make an offer for?!
