Difference in Sound between Altec 604-8K Crossover And 604-8H

I have the Altec 604-8K speakers (2) in an Altec 612C Cabinets. The X over in there now is the Altec 604-8H. Thinking of picking up the correct X over for my 604-8K Speakers which is the 8K X over

Is it worth the money to switch to the 8K X over? Not sure of the difference in X over points or if it would really matter since there is adjustment for Hi And Low Freq. Plus there is the 1/3 octave EQ in the system. I have an Old Crown BDP-2 Real Time Analyzer. I haven't set the system up yet but plan on shooting Pink Noise thru the system to EQ my Room and speakers.

Your thoughts? In my mind I think it would be finite.

I'm sure there are some great Altec Experts here. That's why I love this site.

Thanks In advance

I consider Jeff Markwart the expert in these matters.

Here's what he said ( back in 2010 ) about the 604-8K network.

I've shown you the old url link to his ( now defunct website ) >that is now preserved within//by the "Wayback Machine archive".

I'd suggest poking around at his ( WaybackMachine ) archived website.

Thanks Earl for the reply. I had bough the 8K X overs the other night from Flea Bay. That's a Great article. Thanks for posting and researching it. The point where it reads the 8H does not get the speaker as flat as the 8K ....is I think more important to me then Worrying about how nicely it handles the amps impendence at different freq's.

Since I have a Third Octave Eq in line I might be able to flatten the 604's out using my Crown RTA as I can see the Live graph of frequencies that Float as well as peaks. It might take a while to balance the graph and I'd have to where ear protection as the pink noise would be on for a while as you tweak the filters on the 1/3 Octave.

I have used the Crown BDP-2 to do my 4 E/V Sentry III's which took a while. But they now match my room very nicely and I have the right amount of live end and dead end as well as 1/4 space absorption in the corners.

That was a well written pice of work and very helpful to the DIY guys. Using the Recommended 612C Cabinet with the 604's and the correct X over seems like the Pipe Smoking guys back in the days at ALTEC with slide rules had worked out the X-Over filter combination. Old school... Yep That's me. So..I"ll install them and the EQ the room with them and the 1/3 Octave and the Crown BDP-2. Well see how it goes..

Thanks again for your research.
