Greetings knowledgeable and enthusiastic Sansuiphiles!
After reading all the enthusiastic discussion and restorations of the AU-n17 series of integrated amplifiers, I'm interested in acquiring an AU-317 as the next logical (to me, anyway) progression from my AU-4900 and AU-555A in my exploration of Sansui sound.
I'm in Australia so my preference is for a 240V unit originally imported here, but I notice some Japanese 100V Sansui models show up here from time to time, although they are predominantly the later "heavy iron" Alphas etc.
I understand (from the fascinating Sansui model history thread here) that the AU-307 is the Japanese domestic market equivalent of the AU-317, and actually preceded the 317 to market. I note also some members here have reported working on 307s.
How different from or similar to the 317 is the 307? Other than the voltage, are there any differences in the JDM model that would cause problems for maintenance, repair or restoration?
I have no technical capabilities or equipment, so if I did obtain a 307 (or 207, etc), I'd depend on the willingness of a local technician to take on foreign gear without an English language service manual, etc., and I accept they may be reluctant to do so unless there is a close correspondence with the 317.
