differences between Pioneer VSX-D1S and VSX-D1S II?

So I was going through some old literature of Pioneer that my dad kept when he purchased his receiver and I found a document/brochure from 1992 that highlighted the Pioneer VSX-D1S II. I was looking at the specs for the D1S and the version II of it and I can't figure out the subtle changes. To be quite honest I don't even know if there really IS a difference.

Thanks.

Different remote.

Slightly more power center and rear on the II; in Mode 1, 55 watts center, 50 watts rear, vs. 40/40. In Mode 2, 55 watts rear vs. 50.

And one other minor difference, but I don't remember what, and don't see it in the flyer I have for the II.

Can you scan the brochure? That might jog my memory... I have the D1SII manual here somewhere...

Those are the D1S (not II) specs; they don't seem to have reprinted the manual for the II (mine came with a D1S manual)... I think the only place I saw the third item that was different was in a review. Long lost/discarded, of course.

I never knew they made a 2, back in 91 when I was buying my receiver I actually was going to buy the model one down from the D1S but I don't recall if they didn't have it connected or what but the sales man said he had the D1S set up in the TV dept and took me over to check it out, so once I saw it I had to have it!! I still have the receipt for it too, I think it came out to just under $1300 !!

I don't think the II lasted long; less than a year, I bet.

I did buy the next model down, then bought a used D1SII (for plenty of money) a couple of years later.

mine lasted a long time until the speaker wire I was using as an antenna with a stripped end came in contact with an AC plug that wasn't fully inserted in the AC outlet, can you say SMOKED !! It was a bad day that started with my wife wanting to move the tv/stereo cabinet to another spot in the living room!!

I'd fire my wife if that happened. ;)

I'm on my third D1S; the original has a problem that keeps the speaker relays from engaging... As does the second. :)

Figured I'd bump this as it was what brought me to this site in the first place, and perhaps add a bit of info to this.

The manual for the D1S II was changed, but they forgot to update the wattage. What they did update were the pages on the remote control (the II used the VSX-053 remote, and the D1S used the VSX-014.) The manual for the II clearly shows the 053 remote and functions instead of the older remote.

You are correct though, that power specs changed slightly. This was forgotten to be updated in the manual, but I *had* a 1992/1993 Pioneer product lineup brochure that detailed the D1S II and it's specifications, which showed the slight change in power output. I'm not sure if this was ever available in the states, as I got mine in Hong Kong, though it was in English. Sadly, I lost it in a move just a few months ago.

As far as the years go, the D1S came out in 1990, and was continued with no changes for the 91 model year. In late 92, the II was released, and continued into 93, and in 94 they released the D2S.

I just purchased another D1S after selling my old one many years ago, it still puts out a great sound. :)

I have a D1S, and I can't get any sound outside of "direct mode" with direct mode enabled, I get front channels only. With direct mode disabled, I get no sound from any channels. Any ideas???
