Differences in 5000 series?

I tried to do some searching for differences in the 5000, 5000A, and 5000X. I understand they varied in release dates, with 5000 being oldest and 5000X being newest.

I also understand that many had the bad 1040 amp boards, with some later 5000X's being shipped with the newer safe amp boards.

But are there any other major differences in receiver/amp design that would make one model significantly more desirable than another?

Unless I'm looking at too limited a data set, it seem to me that the 5000X's command a much higher price on the market than the plan 5000's. Wondering why that might be.

Thanks

I have a 5000 that literally smoked when I plugged it in. It had to be serviced and updated with new diodes. I just recently picked up a 5000A that has the updated boards and sounds really great. Right now, I think the 5000A sounds better. However, I think the older 5000 just needs new caps to sound the same. I haven't gotten around to recapping it yet. The biggest issue on any of them is, do they have the newer boards.

Various upgrades as the receivers came out. The A version had upgraded driver amps with the 1040-1 boards, some changes in the FM front end and IF board, muting circuit had the lamp taken out. Not sure what all changed in the X version, early ones had the -1 driver boards with different outputs and heat sinks. Somewhere along the line came the 6013 driver boards. The X version seems to be the most reliable, and most expensive by far. A 5000A - in good shape - would probably be the best overall buy. Good sounding, good looking receivers for sure.

Thanks all. There was a 5000 with 1040 boards locally in great cosmetic condition for $120, but hate to buy something which may just cause more aggravation later. Appreciate the input!
