Direct Drive Turn Table Skips

I just picked up a Marantz 6300 Direct Drive Turn Table last night. Looks great however, the needle skips around (even with a fresh clean vinyl disc) I put a brand new Grado needle on it to see if that would solve the problem....it did not...it still skips.... does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

sounds like you need to set up the tonearm height, balance, tracking force and antiskating force then see how it does. Also stylus overhang and the tonearm tangency to the grooves in the disc. Lotta info on all that here on AK if you do a search.

We could use some more info, yes the obvious is that tracking weight could be off, let us know how you set it up.

Also look to make sure the cueing mechanism is not interfering with the travel of the tonarm. the "rest" part -- the simicircle lifting pad, can get out of position, and while everything will look ok, the arm grazes the mechanism at some point in travel across the record.
