Discogs for sale screwups

I am getting very frustrated by the large number of misrepresented lp's for sale on Discogs.
I have started asking are they 100% sure it is listed correctly and ask them to check the deadwax numbers but feel I should not have to do that every time.

Does anyone have the same experience?

I still shop at my local stores but some things are only available from far away in NM condition.

Actual condition is a whole other issue.

It's been like this for awhile now. Too many bulk sellers and storage wars type flippers that haven't got a clue about how to grade or catalog/list stuff properly. Stop buying from from random Discogs sellers, no matter the feedback - that can be gamed. Find a few sellers that know how to grade accurately and buy from them only, or don't buy off Discogs period. I've had much better luck working with local brick and mortar stores or a few online stores (not on Discogs) that I trust.
 
Been pretty lucky in regards to correct pressings and condition.

For awhile I was striking out with guys who could not find the item listed. I had 6 refunds in a row.
 
Like most used stuff on the Internet you need to do your due diligence on the sellers and stick with the good ones you find. I buy lesser vinyls for the first few buys to get the seller figured out. That has been working pretty good for me.

Edit: if you ask some are doing decent Hi-Res needle drop samples they will email. Still comes down to knowing the seller, no different than a real store, I have my favorites of those also, and ones I will never go in.

Record condition has always been a judgment call by the seller. Is it G, VG, VG+ or some other perceived condition? Ether way It’s,
“pays your monies and takes your chances.“

Yessir, sometimes I have to ask twice. One I ordered was supposed to be a UK release but what I got was the US Passport version. It was fine though because the condition was near mint in shrink for dirt cheap, but c'mon! That was not even close! Another time a pretty rare !st issue Canadian LP was described as M-/near mint cover and vinyl. It was actually VG-/VG- and the cover had water damage in addition to major wear. The $%#@! went round and round with me but since it came from Canada, and I'd be stuck paying shipping both ways to get my money back, I had to eat it. The SOB wouldn't even give me a partial refund on his grossly overgraded piece of crap!
 
This is why a seller rating over 98% (more if they're a bulk seller) is one of my requirements.
 
Most I've purchased have been just off by a bit (like VG instead of VG+ etc), so pretty close to my expectations. I have, however, had one marked as VG+ where there was BAD surface noise throughout, several skips and a lock groove. The seller called me 'picky' in my feedback when I complained about it.
 
I've only had problems once on Discogs. I ordered what was supposed to be a first pressing on Neil Young's first album, the version without his name on it. Sure enough, I open the mailer and the first thing I see is his name in big letters at the top. The seller said she didn't notice. Really, giant letters versus no letters, that's not a rookie mistake that's just not caring to even try to list under the right pressing. Seller did give me a full refund to their credit.
 
Never bought from them use them for info but that is it. Sounds like there are some finds on there but I still like going to thru bins looking for pcs of gold. Happens but so does the oppisite.

That seems like be the fix unless it’s a high priced record. Seller probable paid a buck for the album and it’s cheaper to refund then take back. I have a couple records by full refund that were not as described. Don’t really want them because they didn’t meet my expectations. Would have sent them back but wouldn’t pay the shipping.
 
I've been fairly lucky buying from vendors with items I am interested in. The albums I want are usually very hard to find elsewhere. Many are limited pressings of 500 or less. People who have them are not selling Boston or Foreigner albums. They know their stuff.
There have been a couple missteps with new records from Popmarket. They're a big outfit and aren't as anal as the collectors are. They ship what's in front of them.

Yea, pretty much the one time I ordered from them, this was the packing. Outers on a MoFi release trashed, sent them email.. never heard back.

I always message and nicely ask for pictures of the actual album focusing on the things I know will tell me what I need to know. Most sellers and very responsive and nice, if they are tough with info I usually call it quits.
