Display trouble with MA-6600 integrated amp

I recently purchased a new MA-6600 integrated amp. After having it for about a week, the digital display would not come on when I turned the power on. If I would turn it off and back on, the dispaly would light up.

My dealer checked with McIntosh and had a new unit sent to me. Yesterday I picked up the new one and it does the same thing.

Any suggestions. Please help:scratch2:

Sounds like a possible problem with your power. Small voltage spikes can cause the internal processors all kinds of problems. Are there any big power draws or dimmer switches on the same circuit you are using for your MA6600?
 
Victor, thanks for your reply. I am using a Monster HTPS Power Condtioner. Do you think that could be casuing the problem? I can always try it without it, however it would seem this would not cause the problem.

Reset and bypass the power conditioner. Let us know if that fixes the problem since this is not a known MA6600 issue.

I bypassed the power conditioner and the problem continued. My dealer mentioned that the extra eprom that comes with the tuner module might have to used. They are to check with Chuck in the morning.

Yes, the eprom needs to be changes on the earlier MA6600s when the tuner is used. Chuck will have the serial number info on that.

wow ------- eprom -- seems like more and more "software"(don't know if this is the correct word) is being used in Mac gear .....

is this a good thing ? .......

something else to break sooner than doing it the old way ?? (knobs,buttons,switchs,etc -- the mechanical way)

i dono -- is the new way better ?

I've had a similar problem creep up on my MR85's display. The display just goes wacko by displaying anything in chooses (not necessarily readable characters.) It will change stations and anything else I do either with the remote or on the unit but I just can't read what I did on the display.

Turning the unit off and on again fixes the problem but it’s still a PITA and it’s only happened about 4 or 5 times in a year.

I’m using an APC H15 with voltage regulation.
