Distortion when playing lps, Shure V15 III plus Jico HE

I had that cart, with distortion on the right channel. Bought a new stylus. Same thing. Went to check connections and It crumbled on me. Obviously the lead was barely making connections internally. View attachment 1855602It did "wear" out. I crazy glued it together, stuck a magnet on it. It lives on as a fridge decoration.

Took delivery of a jeweler's loupe today, had a look - big ball of gunk w stray hairs enveloping the stylus. Brushed it again gently under the microscope and happy to report that the problem is solved. Thanks everyone for the help!

I like the Onzow Zero-Dust, because the gel is clear. You can see the gunk being deposited off the stylus.

Even a little 10x magnifier is enough to see stylus crud and even microscopic fibers that don't have to be near the stylus to cause distortion, often seemingly intermittent.
