DIY - Modernize mohawk tube radio to transistor

Hello!

I am about the modernize a old radio 1920 Mohawk. All the component on the tube amplifier are missing so I will replace all the old electronic stuff for :

Mini transistor amplifier mono with PSU
Raspberry Pi 3 with PSU
New speaker
Extension power cord (2 outlets prong)

The mini amp and raspberri pi will be connected to the extension.

Here my question : I have a old 50k ohm potentiometer with switch 125V / 3A and I want to know if it's possible to hook it up to the power cord to power off the whole radio? I will draw less than 5A (I will not push the radio at his maximum).

Beside that, does it exist a new 50k ohm potentiometer with a 125V / 5A power switch? In worst case, I can have a 50k ohm pot and a rotary power switch separately.

Thank you!!

Guy

Say I don't know the answer to your question, but you might also want to post this over on the sister site Videokarma.org They're more geared towards the TV and radio type items.

Best of luck with your project.

I'm one of those old radio guys that cringes a bit at making one modern internally. If its mostly just an empty box though I can't fault you for it. It just drives me nuts when people take a perfectly functional intact old set and modernize it. I put together a small AM transmitter for use with my antique sets so I can feed them any program I like without changes to the original design.

To answer your question though, I wouldnt' expect any of those parts to draw a lot of power. A 3 amp switch is probably more than enough. If you're concerned about it, have the switch drive a relay, and use the relay to handle the load.
