DIY Power Cord?

After reading the DIY speaker connector sticky, has anyone built a DIY power cord using high-quality components? I have seen power cords costing up to $1000 which is crazy. I am sure DIY using similiar high-quality componenets and cable would be much, much cheaper. I would be willing to spend $150-200 for 3 power cords. I have a local electrical overstock store around me which will high-quality plugs and cable. I tried the search function but it hasnt been working for the last week or so.

This happens to me sometime as well, it is probably not a problem with the site or the server, its probably a problem with your (and mine) ISP and their dns servers or something like that.
 
I have that happen sometimes as well... I think that it does it when the search engine can't find anything regarding your search topic. :dunno:

Not sure why it does it, but that's kind of what I've narrowed it down to...

It happens when the search results number more than, I think, 500. Anyway, a narrower search will give you usable results. Try restricting to one forum, or adding a term, like "diy power cord".

Up until now my idea of a "do it yourself" power cord was stealing the cord off old vacuum cleaners! Every time I see an old vac out at the curb I stop and cut the cord off. They are heavy duty and long enough for any occasion! (for general uses, not audio)
 
You are welcome. Unless you have stray RF problems, this won't do much more for you other than give you the satisfaction that it is DIY and did not cost hundreds.

Thank you for that tip. I just ordered two 1-meter cords. I don't know how these rate but they look nicely made. I do wonder why they are marked down so much though...
 
I get that white screen of death on the search sometimes too. It seems more like a database or server thing to me.

They are extremely well made. I am glad someone else was able to capitalize on the markdown.

"I was very hesitant about if there was going to be a difference in power cables, so many audiophile friends had insisted that there was an improvement. I certainly was not in the market to spend $1000 each cable as some one has, so here are a few pics, have more if interested. You might be asking how did my cables sound against my friends $1000 cable, well each of my cables cost me about $200ea to make,the comparison was embarrasing for my friend put it that way. I know your thoughts, but after actually making the cables from advice from some friends I can honestly say that the sonic improvements were not subtle. I hope that I have been some help. My pics are in a more recent post dated 13th April
