DIY RCA interconnects with Locking Plugs

I think this may depend on the equipment you have. For example, on my conrad johnson amplifier the R and L inputs are about 5 inches apart. On my preamp they are about 1 1/2 inches apart so there is no crowding. I guess if you had 10 of these all lined up and very close it could be an issue, although if you put them on one at a time in a row, it really wouldn't. One thing to remember is that since it's adjustable you can potentially pre-tighten them to a desired level and use them as push on/off plugs and not do any tightening once on. You don't take advantage of the adjust-ability, but you basically make them "standard" rca plugs with none of the disadvantages noted by the other commentators.

Non-Lockers too!

I'm a "non-locker" myself (it is indeed a personal preference thing, god forbid this turn into another Magnetic/non-magnetic capacitor lead thread), and the good news is that they sell a non-locking version of what appears to be a very high quality connector - even better those are in stock! Looks like another project in line.

Thanks for the tip. GLS looks to have some real high quality stuff reasonably priced.

Nice job. I have used Vampire Wire LRCA8, which are very good. I've also used Vampire Wire RCA-808.

It's funny that you mention the vampire plugs because that's what got me looking into locking plugs in the first place. The reason I went with GLS Audio is essentially the price. If funds were not an issue I would have gone vampire, but their plugs are around $25 bucks a piece. I was trying to save a little money with DIY, so it worked out well. You definitely have to be careful with quality however. I learned that the hard way by getting some cheap Nakamachi plugs which were terrible and I had to send back.

Plug for Onix Locking RCAs

I just finished a set of interconnects using 99999 solid silver conductors, teflon dielectric, and foil shielding. I think I spent about $65 for the parts. It was a pain but they made a big difference. I used Onix locking RCAs from Partsconnexion -- far and away the nicest quality and easiest to work with I've used, and $25 for four. Highly recommended.

I just went to their site and these do look really good. The only thing is that when you check out, they say that "they will determine shipping and handling" after the the order is confirmed. I don't feel comfortable "paying for something" but not know how much. How much did they charge for shipping?

Tagged: great post and beautiful connects! Cant wait to make some and see what kind of difference they make. Thanks

The shipping is on the high side. I think I paid $8 to ship the Onix RCAs from Canada. They do follow up with an invoice though, so you get to see the shipping charges before you pay.

and here I was about to spend a small fortune getting matching cables (knukonceptz eKs) for my audio system when it goes into a Sanus 36U in-wall rack this summer. Now I can just make my own and make them all to the exact lengths I want! :)

Thanks
