DIY Salamander Audio Rack

My wife is going to re-open an antique store in our carriage house (we have been shut down since the pandemic). I want to display for-sale a collection of large receivers plus some turntables and LP’s. I really liked the Salamander design but it didn’t work for me (not wide or deep enough) so I designed my own to hold 5 receivers, 2 turntables and a bunch of LP’s. Shelves are 3/4” red oak plywood with red oak edging (iron on) with Danish Teak Stain. Black Oxide Threaded rod is 5/8” with 4@4’ and 2@3’. Matching black oxide washers and bolts above and below each shelf. Feet and top use 5/8” Acorn nuts. All shelves adjustable for various gear. Pretty simple build.

That shelf looks really good. I was thinking of doing something similar. Did the threaded rods come pre-painted? I would think spray paint would come off when you thread the nuts on.

The threaded rods, bolts and washers are all “black oxide” - I think if they rust at all a light oil coating would solve the problem. Color did not change when threading bolts on (and that was a lot of threading)!

Acme threaded rod. You can run up or down those nuts 3 to 4 times faster.. McMaster - Carr ... Is a little pricey...
But I spurge a little when it comes to " my stuff " :beerchug:

I just went back to Amazon to see who made the rods I used - The distributer is Sterling Seal & Supply and rods Made in USA - doesn’t say who made it but all threads were good and bolts went on smooth by hand. I tried a couple of the other suppliers and shipping always killed the deal.

Looks great! I thought about making something similar, but are 5/8" rods a bit flexible? Does the shelf wobble at all?
I built mine with 3/4" rods and it absolutely rock solid. I know some people use 5/8" and I haven't heard of anyone who's had issues with stability.
