Take three deep breaths and explain what you hope to accomplish.
Here's some background info:
1. The definition of a "receiver" is an amplifier, a preamplifier, and a tuner in the same box. There is not one single receiver ever built that does not have a preamp. The minimal definition of a preamp is a volume control. Tone controls are a bonus. Multiple inputs are a bonus. Speaker switches are a bonus. But if you've got a volume knob, you've got yerself a preamp, boy.
2. I have seen very few, okay I've seen ZERO, consumer-grade non-car equalizers with built-in pre-amps. it might be the "best way to go" but it'll be a long and arduous journey to find your way there. I do see a whack of car preamp-equalizers by such respected names as BOSS, Power Acoustik, and Sounstorm. I know many pro-audio eq's have level controls and many other useful controls, but most home EQ's just don't.
3. Although cosmetically attractive, the knobs are not required. For a brand as relatively obscure as Soundcraftsmen (not that they didn't produce some fine equipment but they were no Pioneer or Kenwood as far as number of units sold) your chances of finding those knobs are very very very very very very very very very small. That having been said, needles are periodically located in haystacks. Perhaps the guy selling the preamp/equalizers also stocks Soundcraftsmen knobs...
