Do linear trackers skip less?

I was listening to a record on my 'normal' turntable and there was a skip in the same few spots consistently, but on my linear tracker it doesn't skip. Is my anti skate or tracking force off or are linear trackers just less prone to skipping? I don't think there's anything wrong with how my table is set up but this makes me wonder.

Any turntable will skip if not set up properly. Too low VTF can cause this especially with intense bass. Linear does not have the skating issue but levelness can impact. In all cases, properly set up usually eliminates the issue unless record is damaged

Thanks, I think you might be right, I upped the anti skate and it didn't skip this time :tresbon::music: I even tried a warped record that the linear tracker could play but the technics couldn't before, and now it plays the warped record as well. I just based the anti skate on how it sounded, guess I was wrong. It wasn't usually a problem though as far as I could tell, but then again I did just switch the head shell.

I find the best way to test it is to drop the needle in the shiny lead-out area and it should stay in place before the needle grabs the grooves.
 
Sorry but the correct answer is "linear trackers skip less".

Dialing in the anti-skate so it doesn't skip at a specific point is not the "answer".
 
Is it level? My PL-12D would skip until I leveled it, also make sure with a tracking force gauge that the stylus is at the proper tracking weight.
 
Some people run no antiskate and don't have skipping problems. I'd take the advice above and check that the TT is level and tracking weight is toward the top end of the range for the cartridge.
 
I have a linear tracker now that has "Thumpitus" Its decent but after belt change and adjustment in the arm I cant get it to stop thumping on the arm advance.. It plays well but thats to annoying..
 
It's odd but of all the variations in audio gear and turntables, Linear Tracking is something I never had a jones for. I say "odd" because it's sort of right up my alley with always wanting to be on the "cutting edge" of technology. When LT Tables came out, I'm shocked I did not jump on one.

Oh well, never too late. I was going to buy a new U-Turn just to see how the quality stacked up to vintage tables. I may look at getting a vintage LT table instead.

I was skeptical as well but I really think there might be something to this linear tracking business. I have one in use and gave another to my brother, they're both p-mount and sound and function great. They're also both sony direct drive tables and both needed the tone arm 'belt' replaced when I got them, I think they might be a bargain on the used market since people don't know how easy it is to fix them.
