Do people still listen to 8 tracks?

I'm just curious.The other day,I picked up a pioneer 1080,with some speakers,and the guy I bought them from, thru in an old panasonic 8 track player/recorder.I didn't even know that you could record on an 8 track.I've never seen blank tapes for that.Just for haha's,I bought an 8 track tape at the local GW,and I'm sitting here,now,listening to "50 of the most loved records of your life". Its pretty cool! Nice music,from the 40's,50's,and 60's.Definately a stroll back in time.Do people still collect 8 track players?

I collect 'em, but I have an irrational fear of the Spaghetti Factor: splices coming loose in the player and tangling things all up.

On those rare occasions I'm brave enough to listen, I can use:

A Miida 8-track recorder
A Panasonic Dynamite plunger (a blue one), my most expensive player at $5
A portable GE Loudmouth with radio

One day I intend to crack open my Toyo fold-out portable recorder and see if I can get it re-belted.

I've got well over 100 8-tracks, and if you saw what was on some of them you'd probably understand why I say I have to be brave to listen.

I started collecting tapes and players a couple years ago I have amased about 200 tapes and many players, my thing with them is actually making them sound good within a good system. A challenge given there obvious limitations but with a good player, good external dolby and alot of cleaning and adjusting they really can sound very good. Its kind of a nostalga thing too. Also if you have some tapes you dont really like you can record right over them, there is no protection tabs on 8 tracks. Enjoy its not for everyone but it can be enjoyable.

I have a splicing block but if I can get my hands on the metal splicing tape, I'd listen to the 8-track more often without fear of what is said in post #2
