Do the stickers near the serial number indicate build date on 901s?

Got a pair of 901s Series V last weekend and there is a small white paper sticker applied next to the serial number. It is just 5 numbers, 18705 or 18715 on my two speakers. These are not the serial numbers. I'm thinking it might be a build date, Jan 87 on the 5th and 15th days. This fits with when the Series V was available, 1984-1987.

Don't know but it sounds good. I've got a pair of VI's that I bought new in '09. I've looked at the serial numbers but I didn't break the code. I'll try yours first chance I get.

In the 70s, most Bose speaker products had a build tag inside the speaker cavity. These appeared to be the production labels or a tear-off from the build sheet. I don't know when they stopped using that method but most of the 70s vintage 301, 501, 601 and 901 products would have had them in there. These usually had initials and other notations that gave a sense of who had actually touched the speaker during production.

Given that the Series VI are far later, I'd surmise that those codes are some sort of similar thing - I was well into the computer biz when they came out.

So, short answer is I don't know what that means but there's a history with Bose products.

I believe 87 may have been the last year for the V's. By then the 901HVC driver was coated to stop foam rot. My early production 84 V's did rot.
