Do you know of vendors who accept Venmo as payment?

Some of the clients in my business used to pay using PayPal, but nobody does at all these days. I just got a nice payment on Venmo, which I *used to* be able to convert to PayPal - but sadly, not anymore.

Do you know offhand of any vendors who accept Venmo for payment? I'm especially interested in turntable items, headphones and vinyl records.

(PS: I know I could transfer the Venmo funds to my bank account... but I'm trying to hide some of my hobby spending from my lovely and understanding wife. Go ahead and judge, but I bet a lot of you blokes do the same!).

Same ownership of PayPal owns Venmo.

Yes, and it USED TO BE that you could transfer funds from Venmo to PP, but no longer for whatever reason.

There is a workaround using a 3rd party, but I'm not willing to jump through hoops (like, getting a PP credit card).

I fail to see the problem.

If you send a client a Paypal invoice, they can pay with a credit or debit card, whether they have a Paypal account or not.

Years ago I had a modded Dynaco ST-70 that I was moving on from. I priced it to sell not too low but a good fair CASH price for what was done to it restore/mod wise. It was a really nice clean unit which worked really well.

A guy I was occasionally acquainted with gave my phone # to some guy who was interested in purchasing. The first time I talked to him he went on and on about how he's always wanted one and the fact that it been gone over and resto-modded by one of the most respected local area techs was a bonus. I figured it was a no brainer.

Then he tried to talk me down price wise with all sorts or excuses and then basically asked me if I could do him a solid and accept $X. Again I don't know this guy so I explained the price is the price and if not I'll just hold on to it as I didn't need the money he claims he understood and said he'll get back to me.

Over the course of several weeks he would call and pester me almost begging me for a lower price and each time I said no. I finally called the guy I was occasionally acquainted with and asked him what's up with his annoying buddy? he said he barely knew him but that vintage audio was pretty new to him. I never really liked the guy so I politely told to never give out my # again he kinda apologized.

Weeks went by and I hadn't heard from the dude and out of the blue he calls me and asks is it still for sale and for the same CASH price to which I answered yes . He said he'll take it and we agreed to a date & time for him to come pick it up.

He shows up and gushes all over it, about how it sounds, how well it cleaned up etc; then he tried one more time asking for a lower price at that point I was pissed off and told him he needs to leave that I explained to him numerous times what the cost was. He apologizes and then proceeds to make matters worse by saying he'll take it but he can only pay via Venmo.

I'm like wtf! and he proceeded to explain that his wife will know if he spent cash and by using Venmo that would make things easier on him and could I just help him out.

I flatly explained to him you & your wife's financial arrangements have nothing to do with me, you wasted my time by springing that on me at the last second and to basically get out of my house.

Anyway sorry for the long post but I thought I would share a Venmo/audio equipment story

For the most part... I fund my hobby purchases primarily through sales of stuff I already have. And I have TONS of stuff, so I feel guilty when I do in fact pay for more stuff using a credit card. I do give myself a treat for my birthday by buying stuff using a credit card. We're not talking huge amounts of money, less than $1k a year that is out-of-pocket rather then self-funded with gear sales.

The psychological aspect of this could easily become a whole new thread - but in the Back Alley. I'm certain I'm not alone in this devious practice.

Aside from eBay, I still haven't found any online vendors of audio gear or vinyl who take Venmo. (I did find one vendor who does accept Venmo for my other hobby/obsession: plastic airplane models).

Does this help your situation in any way?

“You can convert your Venmo balance into several different forms of currency, external funds, or digital assets depending on how you want to move or use your money.

1. Traditional Bank Currency (USD)
You can cash out your digital Venmo balance into real U.S. dollars by transferring it directly to your traditional financial institutions:
  • Bank Accounts: You can execute a standard transfer to a verified checking account for free (takes 1–3 business days).
  • Debit Cards: You can link an eligible Visa or Mastercard debit card to pull your funds instantly.
  • Instant Transfers: Venmo offers an instant transfer option to eligible banks or debit cards within 30 minutes for a 1.75% fee (minimum $0.25, maximum $25).”

Most vendors I know use Venmo and have have a QR Code.
Scan it with my phone. Confirm the info.
The funds are connected to my bank account with a debit card.
Double click and the transaction is done.

I do appreciate you sharing ideas, but none of these really work for me. I don't want to involve my bank (since my wife would see the funds go in and out), and I don't want to mess with using a 3rd party like a credit or debit card. I've given up on trying to xfer my Venmo funds into PayPal, which is why now I'm just looking for vendors who take Venmo.

Sounds like this is for when you go in person, right? Or do you scan the QR code from your computer screen? I'm looking for online vendors who take Venmo.

Fwiw, I've purchased records from Plaid Room Records online using my PayPal account. Prices were reasonable and shipping was prompt.

Frankie, I'm looking for vendors who take Venmo.

I already know a bunch who Take PP. I've got a few hundred in my Venmo account that I'd like to spend.

Finding vendors that use Venmo is limiting yourself.

You scan QR codes on print or on the computer screen.
Creating your own QR code is super easy and free.
I've used them for myself, made them for non-profits and regular businesses.
They're not limited to purchases. You can created them to information links.
It's quick and convenient.
