EDIT: Sorry, I just realized I said the signal was always hot, when in fact it’s the opposite. The signal LED is the output LED, not the input LED, so it’s as if it can’t properly pass the signal on from channel 1 if I’m understanding the LEDs properly.
I have a DOD SR231QXLR EQ that I bought used for $45.
I noticed that when I plugged it in, and no matter if I used XLR or 1/4”, channel 1’s output signal LED always stays lit at -10 even when there is loud audio passing through it, almost as if the output jacks won’t complete the hand off, and I can clearly hear channel 2 when I manipulate the bands, but channel 1 doesn’t seem to be quite right.
I have cleaned all the outputs and inputs with deoxit and even cleaned each individual slider with a precision sponge with one by one.
I’ve also compared it to my BDS PP-31 getting the direct output feed from the DOD, and what’s even weirder is that the digital EQ seems to align with the peaks and valleys that I set various bands to.
I’m not very familiar with DOD equipment, but if anyone has any suggestions on troubleshooting this further, I am all ears.
I also do have an RTA mic, so I was planning on doing a full tuning session for the living room once I finish building the new crossovers for my Cerwin Vega DX-9’s.
Could it also be that the LED itself is presenting a false-positive, and because I’m staring at the output signal being -10dB, it’s tricking me into thinking there’s a problem when there really isn’t?
Would love to hear if it’s worth the time and effort to validate the true reason why the output signal LEDs are staying lit with or without audio.
