Does a high end AV such as a Yamaha 3070BL function like a music streamer?

Hello,

I'm fairly happy with the system that I have.

My music library is entirely digital and ranges from mp3s to Flacs.

I currently use Yamahas music cast to wirelessly connect with my tablet or phone to "cast" music to my Yamaha 3070BL receiver. I then have the Yamaha preouts going to a 2 channel Parasound A23 which then feed into my speakers. I rotate out some kef r700s, polk lsim707s, Infinity r.s. 2.5s, and ADS L1290s.

Main question being, I use the receiver for my TV as well and just use whatever speakers I have connected at the time. I'm thinking of investing In a Naim or cambridge azur streaming device but is there really any point?

Yes, but with most questions in audio, it is a matter of qualitative degrees. I use my iPad as a bedroom system, but not for prime time playback.

Dedicated streamers typically source lossless content from your server and drive an external DAC for the best results. LMS on my music server sources both a Sonore ultraRendu streamer to an Audio Research DAC8 via ethernet or a Raspberry Pi platform using a DigiOne board to a Music Hall DAC 25.3.

The 3070 uses an ES9026PRO ESS Sabre DAC. It's the same DAC as used in the 3080. It's part of the ESS high end series of Pro DAC chips. So, it's not junk. Be happy. :D

Thank you E-Stat and thank you StimpyWan.

I don't live in an area where anything is available for auditioning. People in Norman Oklahoma that cared for Hifi are in their 70s these days.

I'm happy with it and enjoy it so until I hear something I like better I'll leave it be =).
