Does a Technics SU-V98 amp use the same power amp module as an SU-V78?

There is a bad power amp module in a Technics SU-V98 I have. The module's part number is SV13205. I have access to a Technics SU-V78 and was windering if an SV13205 is the power amp module found in both.

There is a free online service manual for an SU-V98 which identifies the power amp module as SV13205 but I have not found a service manual for an SU-V78. According to the factory provided specs, the difference in output power is minimal - 110 watts for the 98 vs 100 watts for the 78.

If I were to accquire the SU-V78, it with be with intent of transplanting it's module into the SU-V98.

Does amyone know if they both use an SV13205 module?

But I declined purchasing that available SU-V78. Although I confirmed that the amp was in working order, I could not justify paying the asking price just to salvage a part. Plus being left with a carcass to dispose of.

Today I spent some time browing for an SVI3205 module and was disappointed. Prices are horrendously high and most if not all originate in China. My friend who acrually owns the SU-V98 will need to wait until I come to grips with that.

As I was looking through vendor's sites where SVI3205's were offered, I saw several versions with different letter suffixes. Wishing to know if the module inside this SU-V98 had a letter suffix or not, I looked at it. The module in the amp is not stamped SVI3205 but SVI3208. Using SVI3208 as a search term brought up no hits.

So is SVI3208 even a valid number for one of these power amp modules or is it bogus?

My friend, the amp owner, recently explained of having the amp repaired some years ago. She did not know what was repaired but I strongly suspect her original module was replaced.

When I began this thread, I was quoting the part number that I saw in the service manual not the number that is stamped on the module.

im not aware of any counterfeit ones yet, a lot in China are pulls… so they can be hit n miss for functionality

im curious to see a pic of what is in the amp…

the later C / D versions were the BC module series - grey with patterns

originals were jet black with straight edging

It is still in the amp and very awkward to photograph. Attached is the best pic I can manage. The printing is very faint and the SVI number at the bottom right can barely be seen.

When I looked at it earlier, it was with a flash light and dental mirror. After staring for a while, trying to make out what it said, it looked to me like SVI3208. But using the computer zoom function looking at the photo now, it might be SVI3206. Although I could be mistaken, I am fairly sure it is not SVI3205 - the module installed at the factory. There is also an excess of thermal paste.

if the -15v is ok check voltage at R511 Lch and R512 Rch (both should read 0V to ground)
