Does anyone remember the Dali 400? (Don’t know what year they were made)?

I found a pair in really good condition and wondered if anyone thinks they are any good or not?

Opinions yes :thmbsp: no :thumbsdn:

Helicon 400?

If so, you better grab em quick. Thats a killer speaker.

I have a pair of dali grand coupes that i will never part with.

Need good electonics though.

Got them!!! Now time to test. At this point I'm using the old NAD AV 716 Surround Sound Receiver (the AV 716 sounds a bit sharp) but soon hope to find a Yamaha CR-2020 Vintage/Classic Receiver to drive my new Dali 400. ;-)

If i were you, which i'm not, i would definitely go with separates for those hound dogs!!!!

Get a decent preamp, and find an amp like an old nad or adcom, with about 200 watts a channel.

Then get ready to ruin every pair of underwear you own!

I should add that these are the kind of speakers that you can grow with.

I have no idea what kind of budget you have, but you can start with a receiver, and someday invest in mcintosh seperates, and the speakers will show you the startling difference.

I'm so jealous, but so excited for you. Did you have to spend alot?

Those are a speaker that you may never need to upgrade from. they will not be outclassed by any high end electronics you throw in from of them regardless of price. They sold for around 4000 buck new...just don't tell us you paid 100 bucks for them please ! :D

No kidding. i'm waiting for a goodwill story on the order of 28 dollars for the pair.

Finished up paying $800 Australian. I never anticipated these to be as you people say “a good high end speaker” I accidently found them not knowing much about them. Hope I didn’t pay tooooo much?

Is this the speaker you guys are talking about? DALI 400

My budget is fast diminishing…. A friend has a Yamaha CR-2020 Vintage/Classic Receiver in his shed & is prepared to hand it over to me (free), he reports the Receiver is in really good condition & un marked, only thing is he says a dead cockroach has found it’s resting place behind the front tuner glass & every now & then the unit sometimes cuts out one channel.

The Dali Helicon 400 is a very nice sounding speaker. Hearing a pair of those was among the final nails in my obsession with vintage speakers. They are really really good. Big, full bodied, balanced with a sweet top end that is not at all strident, at least not on the tube gear (Cary and Rogue) that I heard them on. I can only imagine that a company that can make these speakers, has a history of making nice speakers. I've seen a few older Dalis and have always been intrigued. Let us know how they sound, if you would.
