Does the Pioneer C-90 Preamp have the sonic goods?

Is this guy thought of as a high end contender or just a pretty faced mid fi unit?

Currently running the B&K Sonata MC-101 as the pre with a Nikko 650 amp and wondering if it could potenially knock the B&K out of its slot. Also if anyone knows, is the Adcom GFP-565 is something to try here? :scratch2:

That would depend on where in the food chain the commentor was coming from. A guy who loves his SX-950 or SA-9800 might think very highly of a C-90 preamp Another guy who's into some $10,000.00 modern amp and companion system migt think it Mid Fi at best.

I had one...I gave it to a friend several years ago...it supplanted a Carver C4000 about 20 years ago...man, has it really been that long????

It was bested by an Onkyo Grand Integra P-308, which was bettered by a PS Audio 4.6, which was replaced with an Adcom GFP-565, sprinkle in a few Dynaco PAS-3X preamps over the years, and my final stop was my Audible Illusions...that was over a decade now...after the Modulus 3A I felt no reason to upgrade anymore...
