Does WiiM have a good dac?

I don't have much experience with DACs--i added a Topping D30 to my 40yo system when dvd players with analog out became a rarity. I've since replaced that DVD but the new one sounds much better playing thru the D30. So does my Squeezebox.

Now I'm considering adding a WiiM Pro Plus to access Internet sources, Bluetooth, and to replace my Squeezebox. I was figuring on running it into the D30 thru a switcher but was wondering if the Wiim internal DAC might actually be better than the oldish & cheap D30?

In reality, only you can determine that. Order one and try it. If it isn't better, send it back.

If you are happy with your DAC you need to could spend less on the WIIM Pro. I own a WIIM Pro + and am using it to update my Yamaha C2/M4 analog system. I did not have a DAC and the combo was too good to pass up at the price point. It’s fine to use only as a streamer of course, but everything I read was that the Pro with an external DAC could be as good of much better. Just FYI.
YMMV as always. BTW the software is outstanding.

The D30 is circa 2016 and there has been a LOT of improvement in cheap DACs since then. The CS4398 chip in the D30 was awesome for its time but on objective forums it's specs don't compare to the new choices. The AK4493 in the WiiM (and Topping E30) gets high praise in the reviews I've read--both ear-based & meter-based.
I'm feeling like it's a step backwards to use my D30. At this price point it's not gonna ruin me to get a newer DAC if it's really an improvement over the internal one in the Pro+

The only WiiM with a good DAC is the Pro+, there isn’t a technical reason to use the D30 with it.

I've had a Pro+ in my Amazon cart for a few weeks--since I read that it supports LMS and can replace my problematic old Squeezebox. Wednesday I checked my Cart and found Amazon was running a limited sale on the Pro+ at 15% off.
I pulled the trigger.

I'll know soon if it's really "all that AND a bag of chips".

Hello guy48065,

Since you purchased the WiiM Pro+ back in March, can you advise if the WiiM Pro+ internal DAC is a good unit for the price?

If the internal DAC is not satisfactory then what I will probably do is to purchase my second WiiM Mini and use it as a streamer/transport to connect to a new Chord MoJo 2 DAC to obtain the better sound quality that I am after.

Thanks...
