Don's updated listening space

An amazing space and great gears you got there. Definitely a room i would like to sit with a short beer and few albums !

Some recent additions to round things out. Now running all Shunyata Research Black Mamba power cords: CX's on the CDP, VPI SDS, VPI Classic 3. HC/CX's feeding the Shunyata Hydra 8 and the Luxman integrated. Also picked up a Bob's Devices SUT, this improved the mid's and highs somewhat but had the greatest improvement in the lows.

Recently sold the Shunyata Hydra 8 and replaced it with the Hydra Talos. Not a huge difference over the 8 but a do like what I'm hearing. Highs have a bit more shimmer, voices seem a bit more natural, bass a little more defined. Sound stage opened up some and nice roll off/decay.

Great looking room Don what the detention of it.
Did you make the sound panels? [/URL]

No, the panels are not DIY, they are from GIK Acoustics's. Generally I am a DIY person but not this time. I did however come up with a cool, if I do say so myself, mounting for the rear wall bass trap. :D

What are the dimensions of the room? Looks great! Well thought out. :thmbsp:

The room is 9ft wide and just under 10ft deep with standard 8ft ceilings. Less than ideal for sure. But I'm not complaining and am grateful to have a dedicated space. The room had become a catch all and wasn't being put to any use so I claimed it :D

Some additional shots of showing the rest of the room.

Very nice fella! So how dead is the room? Is there just a small hint of Reverberation, or is it totally dead? It doesn't appear to be totally dead, but I ask due to the panel on the back wall.

Very nice room! :thmbsp: I like your idea for the adjustable bass trap. (Would look even better if the hardware were sunk into a slit in the wall, but that would be really over-the-top, unless built-in when the house was constructed!)

Very tasteful place you've there - Don,

And having owned Reference 3A Dulcets in the past - I'm quite certain that their sound better suits your space and needs. You've done a excellent job.

Beautiful, I might add.

Regards,

No it's not dead and if anything the left side is a bit more alive than the right. I'm thinking I will try some tube traps for first and second deflection points at some point.

The idea here, since this is a spare bedroom, would be to not do anything that would hamper it being returned to a bedroom. The idea I had is based on a "barn door" roller set up. The rails are aluminum stock with some chrome spacers taking them about one inch off the wall. I countersunk the screw holes to the hardware is flush and used S.S. screws.

Thanks Don
Your room is the same size as mine I trying to get things sorted out. I talk with GIK I will be getting some bass traps here soon.

George Thorogood and the Destroyers sounded so good in concert in the 1970’s. I love people who recongize underappreciated rock groups. My thumbs up to you. Your speakers look so much like the Spendors BC1’s which do everything wrong (BBC bloom, will not play loud) but sound fantastic. Ok I need to get into the 21 century.
The massive speaker stands are understatement in spades. Like $800 speakers and $800 stands. I Love it.
And what LP household can be without IKAK bookcases. You do it well! Killing me softly with audio love. I would also say "Wow Luxman"
Michael
