this "slag" could have been a problem had it landed and "stuck" somewhere else on the pcb

Nice save! It's a shame what happens to so much great gear in the hands of amateurs or people who don't have a clue. Those Yamaha plastic sides in some of the components weren't one of their finest moments for sure. I've had to do that same repair myself. But glad that C-65 is getting the TLC it deserves! I love mine! I think the only pre that may someday replace it would be a C-2 or 4, or possibly a C-80/85. Until then (and that day may never come), my C-65 is a keeper for sure.

thanks. i love my c65. i've also got a c6 and a c70 and i prefer the c65. someone is going to get a hell of a deal as i will be selling this one cheap just to move it fast and give it a new home.

i just found out that it was purchased off ebay and it was not cheap.

what came out on the left and what went in on the lazy susan. i got more involved that i wanted.

but it works and sounds fine.

i'll scrutinize it later and finish the plastic repair.

Yeah those plastic sides tend to fail from folks stacking other pieces on top. Or, the coarse thread screws got mixed up with the fine thread screws from lower faceplate area.
I bought some metal replacement strips from a nice fella in this forum. He tapped the screw holes perfectly & painted the new strips. I won't name drop though. Maybe he'll chime in if you're interested.

thanks. he offered when he saw the condition of this but i politely declined. i've been doing this type of plastic repair on vehicles for 30 years. it's solid.

C-6 is a sleeper.
if the c-6 had a loudness or better yet, continuous loudness...i never would have looked for anything else. i like the looks of the c6. i like the full parametric eq.

one of my favorite things about the c65 is setting loudness and volume both at full counterclockwise position and then operate them together....up until about 12 oclock anyway then loudness stays at that position and the volume control goes higher. that really gives me a sound that i like.

i think the balance control under the front edge of the c65 is a slick touch as well. you can't see it. you don't need to see it. you just let your finger manipulate it.

Someones making a fortune at crappyrecapkit.com.

Those big blue 4700uF caps labeled BC must be the Big Cheese series.
vishays.

BC's are actually good caps
yes they are.

Nice to see this preamp brought back to a respectable condition. Crazy how bad some of the repairs out there can be.
thanks and yeah. there are some cobblers out there. i've seen the same thing my entire career in autobody.

respectable? exactly.

not restored. i'm not going to try to pass it off as restored. at best, refurbished.

electronics should be good. controls might need attention in a few years. i have no urge to dig into them and i am going to be clear about that when i list it in BT for cheap.
